In a match that was hyped by the internet world pitting two of the best on the independent scene together, Johnny Gargano took on Adam Cole tonight for Xcite Wrestling. Looking to crown their first ever champion, Johnny moved on in the tournament over Adam Cole tonight. Following up later in the night for the finals, Johnny took on the undefeated Joe Gacy, along with Shane Strickand, and Adam Cole – who had been slated in after a battle royal. Unfortunately, Gacy’s dominance proved strong, allowing him the victory and to become the first ever Xcite Champion.
Even though the rift in FIST has caused consistent problems over the past several weeks, there was a shining bit of optimism. With Icacrus attempting to make everything go smoothly, FIST remained united, up until tonight, that is. In a six-man showdown, FIST took on the Special Envoy, but a miscommunication led to Johnny getting rolled up by Frightmare. Johnny was quick to place the blame on Sugar Dunkerton, laying him out with a Superkick, before Icarus speared Johnny. Infuriated, Johnny loudly proclaimed he was done with the group, perhaps officially leaving FIST?
In a two day tournament that will go underway May 24th, Johnny Gargano will face a longtime wrestling foe, and arguably one of his best opponents. CIMA picks Swann up in an awkward, upside-down kind of stretch and EITA lays in another chop to the chest, then EITA and Tomahawk hit more killer charging chops in the corner and a Doomsday lungblower for 2. That was a hell of a creative spot! Tomahawk goes to the second rope, but Swann hits a leaping enziguiri and a top rope Frankensteiner, followed by a double Ace Crusher for EITA and CIMA, and the tag is made and we all know what starts now.

CIMA asks the fans if they want to see a double title match, and says he’ll bring his Open The Dream Gate Title next time. Jon Davis comes into the ring and lays CIMA out from the blindside, then flattens Rich Swann with a short clothesline. Gargano holds up a hand to tell Davis to stop, and Davis walks off. CIMA gets to his feet, but Gargano kicks him in the nuts, and when Swann asks Gargano what he’s doing, Gargano hugs Swann, superkicks him, then throws him out to the floor and rams him into the barricade. Gargano gets a strap and comes back into the ring and uses it to choke CIMA while mocking his “Did you like the show?” speech that CIMA does at the end of DGUSA shows. He tells the fans he did this for them, apparently believing himself to be the hero for doing this as the fans chant “f*** you Gargano” at him.

A big sorry for the delay in the update, but of course – of all weekends – my laptop crashed during the big Wrestlecon event. Fortunately enough, the weekend started off on a high note for Johnny Gargano – who went into EVOLVE 19 to team with a former opponent, Brian Kendrick, to take on two members of the Gentleman’s Club: Orange Cassidy and Drew Gulak.
Brian Kendrick & Open The Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano vs Drew Gulak & Orange Cassidy

Cassidy staggers into Gargano for a weak shoulderblock, then gets a side headlock and falls into Gargano with another weak shoulderblock. He tells Gargano to hit the ropes and goes for a couple of wild swings, but Gargano knows they’re coming and manages to avoid them. Gulak tags in and asks for Kendrick, then plays mind games by ducking around Kendrick’s shots and then nailing him from behind when Cassidy distracts him. Cassidy, Gulak, and the Swamp Monster triple team Kendrick to no apparent repercussions from the referee, so Kendrick gets a microphone and tells Gulak and Cassidy to stop wasting his time and to hit him in his face.
The Gentlemen’s Club fires up and beat Kendrick down, but whip him into his own corner and he tags Gargano in.
